09 - File-Based Player

GENERAL

Once the SCRATCH software is installed, certain media file types (e.g. .CIN, .DPX or .r3d) are automatically associated with the ASSIMILATE File Player. These files show a SCRATCH Player icon in Windows Explorer / Apple Finder.

When you open one of these files directly with SCRATCH (double click the file / drag-drop a file onto the application icon), the software starts in Player / Play Pro mode. In this mode, a limited set of functions is available.

The main difference when opening media this way is that you open a default project and you open the shot directly in the Player. The bottom part contains 2 tabs: Construct and Player. When you switch to the Construct you return in a default timeline called Recent Shots, that contains  the media that you opened directly from file in prior sessions.

MENU

The Player tab contains the Shot, Media, Framing, Color, LUT and Audio menu. Most of those menus are discussed in the Chapter - ColorFX. The other menus as well as the Player controls and View port toolbar have been discussed earlier in this chapter.

EXITING THE FILE PLAYER

You can exit the Player by clicking the Exit button in the lower left corner or select the close or minimize buttons in the top menu bar.
