05 - Monitor Settings

GENERAL

The Monitor menu is split in three sections. The first two sections contain almost identical settings for the (main) Interface monitor and Dual Head (reference) Monitor. In addition, for some settings on the the (primary) Interface monitor, you specify to how they apply to the (left) Working- and (right) Dual-view. The third section contains additional settings specific for a second monitor. All values set in this menu apply to the entire project. Both Dual Head/SDI sections are only available if you have an SDI monitor setup or have enabled the Dual Head option in the System Settings menu.

INTERFACE AND DUAL HEAD MONITOR

COLORSPACE AND EOTF

A monitor in SCRATCH has - similar to any node - a colorspace associated with it: both a color gamut and transfer function. These settings determines if / how SCRATCH converts the source image.

LUT

For each display you can set a Display LUT using the Load button. By default the LUT for your main monitor is applied to both views in dual view mode but using the Apply buttons you can switch off the LUT for either one view. Use the R button to reset / clear the LUT reference all togehter.

APPLY COLORSPACE

By default if the color space of the node being viewed differs from the color space of the monitor that you set - SCRATCH will perform a color space conversion. By disabling the Apply button SCRATCH does not perform a conversion. You can toggle this setting for each view separately in a dual view mode on the main monitor.

APPLY LUT

This button toggles the application of the LUT - set above this pattern - on/off. You can toggle this setting for each view separately in a dual view mode on the main monitor. See Chapter 11 - Customization for information on various supported LUT formats.

STEREO PATTERN

This pull-down determines the stereo pattern that SCRATCH will send out to the dual view or second monitor / output device when you playback a stereo node in the Player. This does not apply to the main view. When playing a stereo node, the image shown in the main view will always either be the left or right eye. Which eye is shown is determined through the Manage Stereo panel which was discussed earlier in this manual.

The list of possible Stereo patterns that can be displayed on the split view of the second monitor / output also contains - next to all the regular patterns such as anaglyph, over-under, etc. - a Difference option. This shows the difference between left and right eye and can be used to check the convergence between the eyes.

Note that in the case of Dual Link SDI output, regardless of any pattern set here - SCRATCH will always output each eye separately to each SDI output.

360 VIEW FORMAT

This setting is not specific to any one view but applies to all views; main, split and second monitor/device. By default this is set to Auto which means that SCRATCH will check the Projection Type metadata of a shot and based on that show the image as a flat (normal) image or create a spherical projection. If the 360 View Format is however set to another value than Auto, SCRATCH will disregard the metadata of a shot and use this setting as an override to determine the projection type used.

ADDITIONAL DUAL HEAD/SDI CONTROLS

In addition to the Color Space, LUT and stereo Mode options - the Dual Head / SDI monitor has a number of additional controls associated.

ENABLE OUTPUT

Button to switch on/off the dual view; if switched off the second output will show the SCRATCH logo (or alternate logo if setup).

KEEP

Maintain the last image on the video output when exiting the Player - rather than reverting to the default image.

ASPECT SELECTION

This pull-down menu has the standard SCRATCH aspect ratios that are set in the aspects.cfg file. This will control the aspect ratio of the full-screen output. You can also enter a Custom Scale factor using the Numerical Slate.

OVERLAY

This button will toggle SCRATCH interface overlays so that they are visible on the full-screen output.

SCALE

The Scale is a manual control for custom aspect ratios for the full-screen output.

GUIDES

This button will toggle SCRATCH guides so that they are visible on the full-screen output.

NO SCALING

This button bypasses the Scale adjustment set in the aspect pull-down.

FILTER

This button will set the filter type used for scaling the image on the full-screen output. The different filters were already discussed in Chapter - Render, in the Outputs Menu paragraph,

OVER MODE

When enabled, the SDI / dual head monitor will display the wipe overlay when switching the main interface monitor in Over-mode.

RIGHT VIEW

When enabled, the right view of the dual view is displayed on the second monitor / display. This allows for more flexibility e.g. client sessions: show the main output (full context) on the big screen while you work on a local shot within the multi-layered timeline or composite.

EFFECT

You can created one or more so called Custom Commands, discussed in more detail in Chapter - Customizing, to reference a (third party) plug-in to be applied solely to the second monitor. The Effects drop-down list the created Custom Commands and the selected one is applied to the monitor output. Note that only one Custom Command / plug-in can be active at any time.
