FAQ - General


How to do a clean install of CSP or Media Reactor on the Mac.

  • Run the uninstall in /Applications/Assimilator/uninstall (this does not uninstall SCRATCH)
  • Navigate to the /Library/Frameworks/ and delete these 2 folders: DrasticDDR.framework and Intel_IPP.framework.

I can't see the image on SDI monitor. Just the Assimilate Logo.

  • If you are using Version 5.2 - on System Settings be sure you have the option DUAL VIEW ENABLED.
  • If you are using Version 6.0 or up - go to the Player-Settings and be sure you have ENABLED OUTPUT selected.

Tablet is not working properly on Scratch.

  • On the PC go to c:/Program data/Assimilator/Settings and open the file SConfig
  • On OS X go to Library/Application Support/Settings and open the file SConfig.
  • Search for a line with #AS_NO_TABLET.
  • Remove the symbol # and add the number 1 at the end: AS_NO_TABLET=1.
  • Save the file and re-open Scratch.

The DualView wipe is not working on SDI monitor.  

  • Due to DUAL YUV might be enabled.
  • Go to SDI Config panel on the System Settings menu and choose any other option that is not DUAL YUV.

SCRATCH will not or produces an error when rendering MXF files.

  • On windows make sure you have installed the Avid AMT SDK available from the download section on the support site.

How to playback R3D files in realtime without a RR installed.

  • Use Proxy modes.
  • On version 5.2 - go to the Player - Process - General and choose the Proxy that plays fine. The realtime playback depends on the hardware you have.

How to change and copy the metadata on r3d files. White balances, LUT, etc...

  • Using the Media Browser available from the CONstruct,
  • Go to the R3D Tab available at the top of the Media Browser, make your changes and then select the Apply Changes button.

Are we able to work with the 4x mono audio channels embedded on video files from cameras using CSP?

  • currently CSP supports only 2 channels of audio. will change in the future , no ETA.
  • workaround:  record audio to a separate device to multichannel BWF and import/sync back to video , or use external tool to extract audio from camera files and import/sync back to video.

How do I render out shots as individual events rather than one single file?

  • Use a filemask such as: #eventno/#sfile. #Eventno being the individual slots in your construct. This will build a folder structure like: 001/sourcefile.ext, 002/sourcefile.ext, 003/sourcefile.ext, etc.

How do you setup a burn-in on your output view? (SDI or Dual Display)

  • Using Burn in node. + reference to How-To-article / User Guide update.

How can I see a grading reference on my SDI output?

  • first you have to add a shot reference or a frame reference to your Tray.
  • Then you have to enable DualView mode and select the reference in your tray.
  • In your player settings, you have the dual wipe setting, it allows you to wipe between your 2 images.
  • Tip : if you set dual wipe to 100, you can switch between the graded shot and the reference shot just by enabling DualView.

How can I have a shot counter on my timeline starting at 1?

  • Scratch Constructs are based on slots. The number of shots on your timeline is teh number of slots.
  • In the Construct, go to settings and switch ReelInfo to SlotNB to display the counter.
  • If you want that the first shot is starting at the number 1 and not 0, exit your project and go to system settings.
  • Change to  "Count From 1"

What 's scratch speed in rendering ?

  • it really depends on the hardware configuration that you have, and the type (format and resolution) of material you are using.
  • the bottle necks are the speed of read/write of the storage or the network.
  • blurs and plug-ins could slow it down.
  • in general, if the playback is realtime on the machine then it will be realtime or faster in the sdi render.
  • with the exception of r3d files ( where a red rocket  would help ) .

How can you add a different timecode to the render.

  • there's a regenerate tc button, in the output menu, in the construct
  • that will allow you to set the timecode as you want for each output node.
