FAQ for Colorgrading & Compositing


WHY DOES DRAG AND DROP FROM TRAY NOT COPY THE COLOR?

  • Ensure "drop texture" is turned off in Player/Settings/General.

HOW DO I EXPORT 1D OR 3D LUTs ?

  • Any grade can be saved as a LUT, using Matrix/Save as... and selecting the LUT format on the browser filter.
  • The LUT formatting depends on the LUT settings selected in Player/Settings/General menu "LUT Export Options".

CAN I LOAD A LUT IN A SECONDARY (SCAFFOLD) ?

  • Yes. Just use Matrix/Load and then use the browser filter to select the LUT type. The LUT will then be loaded in the Scaffold list.

CAN I EDIT A 1D LUT THAT I RECEIVED ?

  • Yes. Just load the 1D LUT in Matrix/LUT and select "Create Curve". The LUT disappears from the loading line, but is now available in "Curves" where you can edit it.
  • From here, you can also enter the "Curve Editor" for precise adjustments. Once done, use Matrix/Save as... and select 1D LUT to save this as a new LUT.

HOW CAN I BATCH SWITCH DEBAYERING SETTINGS FOR MANY FILES IN ONE GO?

  • Just do it in Process on the first clip; then go to Matrix and do Copy/Paste.
  • In the Paste menu select FX Ctrls and leave the ""Non Default Only"" switched off.
  • Then do "Paste FWD" .
  • That will copy your process debayer settings over to full timeline".

IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAP THE PANELS ?

  • Yes, just go to Player/Settings/General /Configure panel.

HOW CAN I COPY AND PASTE SCAFFOLDS?

  • Scaffolds can be copied using Drag/Drop, or Copy/Paste ( selecting Scaffolds in the paste menu) , or CTRL C/CTRL V, or saving them in one of the Memories buttons. Also, in v7 they can be added to a Tray and copied from there.

I HAVE A GREEN SCREEN SHOT BUT, DON'T KNOW IF I SHOULD USE CHROMA KEY OR HSV KEY

  • Try both or....get a professional.

HOW CAN I APPLY 2.40:1 MASKS TO 1920x1080 TRANSCODED FILES?

  • Add a Burn-in node (available in FX Contols/Insert/SPA) to the Output process.
  • In the Burnin, use the "Guides" tab. There are presets you can start from (ie: 2.35) and adjust Bottom and Top values.
  • Then "Save" if you wish to re-use.

IN WHICH ORDER ARE THE GRADING PARAMETERS APPLIED ?

  • This order is explained in the INTRODUCTION page of the MATRIX chapter in the User Guide. They are, chronologically:
    1. Input transform
    2. Offset adjustments
    3. Pre-Gain adjustments
    4. Color-A (Hue, Saturation and Lightness) adjustments
    5. Gamma
    6. Lift
    7. Gain
    8. Contrast
    9. Color-B (Hue, Saturation and Lightness) adjustments
    10. S-Curve parametric remapping
