FAQ for Project Management & Scripting

AFTER A CRASH, I CANNOT ENTER MY PROJECT ANY MORE.

  • Scratch does update it database on a regular basis in the background. While doing so, a temporary Project.db-journal file is created in the project folder. If, for any reason, a crash or shutdown happens while Scratch is updating its database, this file is not removed and will block the access to the project.
  • Removing manually this file will make the project available again.

I DON'T SEE ANY "JOURNAL" FILE, AND STILL CANNOT LAUNCH MY PROJECT.

  • In this case, and upon support request only, look at the 3 project.bak files in the project folder. These are your project backups and you have only 3. This is why it is important to not try to open a project several times when you face a problem (otherwise your backups will be lost).
  • Rename the Project.db as Project.old and a ProjectX.bak as Project.db.

I DID A CLEAN UPGRADE, BUT NOW ALL MY PROJECTS ARE GREYED OUT.

  • If you did a clean upgrade (meaning with a backup of your original Assimilate and Assimilator folders), then most probably you forgot to copy the Users back. Solution: either reimport the Users from the backup or create a new user.

I HAVE A PROJECT INVOLVING A LARGE AMOUNT OF RED FOOTAGE. WHEN I DO A LOAD LAYERS, MY SHOTS SHOW UP AS BLACK OR PARTIALLY LOADED.

  • When dealing with a large number of files, Scratch tries to maintain all these files "opened" so it doesn't need to point to the source shots to open them. When it reaches its limits (depending of your configuration), it is possible to reduce the amount of simultaneously "opened" files in the project.
  • This can be done by activating the RED MAX OPEN variable in the System Settings/Advanced Settings/Configuration menu. Try a first value at 300, then adjust if needed.

I HAVE A PROJECT SHOWING ISSUES WITH QUICKTIME FILES AND THE LOGFILE SHOWS A "SCRATCH-QTIDM Version mismatch !"

  • This is typical when Scratch is installed on the top of an older version without having uninstalled the old version first. As a result, the QT decoder doesn't match the installed Scratch version. First thing to do is to proceed with a clean uninstall/install of Scratch and of the CSP. These procedures are covered in the "Setup & Configuration" tab.
